Abstract

Introduction: Quality health services are health services provided based on patient needs, not based on what is owned by a service institution. The need for nursing care in patients with chronic diseases such as patients with kidney failure who are undergoing hemodialysis really needs more supportive nursing care such as the need for physical, psychological and informational support about health.
Objectives: This study aims to explore the need for health services in patients receiving hemodialysis therapy.
Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out by means of in-depth interviews on 17 participants who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Participants were end-stage renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Results: The results of the study found 3 main themes, namely basic needs fulfillment services during hemodialysis therapy; support received during hemodialysis therapy; various health services that have not been received during hemodialysis therapy.
Conclusions: The conclusion of the service menu based on identification of needs has a positive impact on services so that health workers know what is the patient's expectation in determining the type and quality of service desired. The implications of nursing in order to meet patient needs require identification of needs that produce a service menu. This helps health service providers, especially nursing, to make the best decisions in planning nursing care and is effective as a guide for managing needs in improving the quality of health services.
