PENGARUH KOMBINASI BRAIN GYM DAN TERAPI MUSIK TERHADAP FUNGSI KOGNITIF PASIEN PASCA STROKE ISKEMIK DI RUMAH SAKIT IMMANUEL BANDUNG
Abstract
BACKGROUND Ischaemic stroke is a stroke that occurs due to a blockage in blood vessels in the brain, resulting in damage to brain cell death. One of the effects of damage to brain cells after a stroke causes cognitive impairment. Impaired cognitive can be done through cognitive stimulation, one of them is brain gym and music therapy.
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to determine the effect of brain gym combinations and music therapy on cognitive function in ischaemic stroke patients.
METHODE The present study was quasi experimental research with a control group and involved 56 respondents who were recruited from Immanuel Hospital Bandung using consecutive sampling. Respondents were divided into two groups. The intervention group was given a brain gym and music therapy, while the control group was given a standard program (physiotherapy) 2 times a week for 4 weeks. Cognitive measurements were carried out 5 times using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)
RESULT The results of the mann whitney test showed a significant difference in MoCA scores in the first to fourth post in the intervention group compared to the control group during the study (p <0.05). Further test results with Friedman and post hoc tests using Wilcoxon test showed that brain gym and music therapy effectively increased MoCA scores.
The conclusion is that there was an effect of a combination of brain gym and music therapy on cognitive improvement in post-ischemic stroke patients at Immanuel Hospital.
