Abstract

Latar Belakang: Stroke iskemik terjadi akibat sumbatan pada pembuluh darah di otak, sehingga mengakibatkan kerusakan hingga kematian sel otak. Salah satu dampak kerusakan sel-sel otak pasca stroke menyebabkan gangguan kognitif.

Responden dibagi menjadi dua kelompok.

Background: Ischemic stroke occurs due to blockage of blood vessels in the brain, resulting in damage to brain cells. One of the impacts of damage to brain cells after a stroke causes cognitive impairment. Cognitive improvement or enhancement can be done through cognitive stimulation, one of which is brain gym and music therapy.

Objective: to determine the effect of a combination of brain gym and music therapy on cognitive function in ischemic stroke patients.

Methods: A quasi experimental study with a control group involved 56 respondents recruited from Immanuel Hospital Bandung using consecutive sampling. Respondents were divided into two groups. The intervention group was given brain gym and music therapy, while the control group was given a standard program (physiotherapy) 2 times a week for 4 weeks. Cognitive measurements were taken 5 times using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Data were analyzed using mann whitney test and friedman test followed by wilcoxon post hoc test.

Results: The results of the mann whitney test showed a significant difference in MoCA scores at the first to fourth post in the intervention group compared to the control group during the study (p<0.05). Further test results with the Friedman test and post hoc using the Wilcoxon test showed that brain gym and music therapy were effective in increasing MoCA scores.

Conclusion: there is an effect of a combination of brain gym and music therapy on cognitive improvement in post-ischemic stroke patients at Immanuel Hospital.
