Abstract

The Relationship between Cholesterol in Pregnant Women and the Incidence of Preeclampsia

Background : In pregnant women, cholesterol is needed as one of the substances used for the process of growth and development of the fetus. So that the cholesterol levels of pregnant women are generally higher than before pregnancy. However, if cholesterol levels are too high, it can also pose risks in pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetus militus, large for gestational age, and macrosomia.

Purpose: to analyze the relationship between cholesterol levels in pregnant women and the incidence of pre-eclampsia.

Method: analytical descriptive research with a cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at RB Endang Sidoarjo with a total sample of 33 third trimester pregnant women. Measurement of cholesterol levels is carried out when the mother conducts a pregnancy check-up and the incidence of pre-eclampsia is obtained based on the results of the examination.

Results: this study showed that most pregnant women with normal cholesterol levels did not experience a pre-eclampsia event, namely 24 respondents (72.7%). Based on the results of statistical test analysis, it was found that the indigo p value of the fisher exact test was 0.036 and the p value < 0.05.

Conclusion: there is a relationship between cholesterol levels in pregnant women and the incidence of pre-laxity.
